Story of the oil painting told by Dave Powell

"These are all men of bravery.  Men that owned bundles or sponsored sun dances are gathered.  Each one gets up and is allowed to recite a story but also has a prayer and a blessing he bestows on people.  They will face paint children or other people will line up before holy men and they start painting the people and give a blessing at same time.  Often they would give a name to a child that represents luck regarding a war coup or a blessing. They are before an arbor lodge.  The drummers are singing to Natosi.

All the rocks and stakes are from sweat lodge fires, and are considered holy things. The rocks are brought to the pole as offerings. The skull is stuffed with sweet grass and is sometimes given away to someone who had done an act of kindness. Horn society staffs are the property of the Horn Society, who were very tough guys used as camp police.  The main figure is praying for the well being of the people, and is somebody with great personal power who owned many bundles.  The sun dance happens once a year usually at the time of the equinox moon in June."
